Where did you grow up? I grew up in the country, on a gravel road outside of a small farm town a few hours northwest of Minneapolis. I was so fortunate to have parents that supported my love of animals, since I wanted to be a veterinarian as a child. You name it, I had it as a pet — cows, pigs, goats, chickens, bunnies, guinea pigs, hamsters, fish, cats and a dog. I am also the youngest of 4 siblings, with 3 older brothers, so I grew up playing football, wrestling, ‘American Gladiator’ games with our homemade pugil sticks, and any other dangerous sport they would allow me to partake in.
Early jobs and what did you learn? Not counting “picking rocks” or babysitting, my first official job was at a small restaurant named after the town I grew up in, Albany Restaurant. This is where I learned the meaning of hard work. Being in a small town, the one-person waitstaff did IT ALL — taking orders, serving, beverages, busing tables and providing service with a smile.
Perfect Saturday? Isn’t every Saturday pretty much perfect?
