Where are you from? I grew up in a small town, Amarillo, located in the Panhandle of Texas. It’s in the middle of nowhere, but the town is quintessential Texas. George Strait is still "the King" (the weather station played "Amarillo By Morning” 24/7), Thanksgiving day was a quail hunt with family and Friday night was football.
Who are some of your strongest influences? It’s cliché, but my parents without question. My dad treats all people with respect, no matter the circumstances. He was the first generation to go to college in his family and he doesn't take anyone or anything for granted. My mom is tireless, in the most positive of ways. A basic respect for people and a relentlessness with what you do are two things that have become core values for me.
Perfect Saturday? A day outside with my family, either camping in the summer or skiing in the winter. My kids are at the ages where they are starting to enjoy some of the same things that I love to do. I’m trying to really appreciate this time in life (while they still like talking to me).
What word best defines you? Curious
History with your own family businesses? Like a lot of people in that area, my family has been in the cattle and ranching business for several generations. The business has branched out and is now in its fourth generation and going strong.
What experience or thoughts translate best to family/founder businesses? I grew up in a family of entrepreneurs. From a pretty young age, I learned that there is a lot of opportunity if you are willing to take some risk and challenge the convetion. People think about the financial reward, but more importantly, you can focus on what you find meaningful and develop lasting relationships in the process. That’s part of what excited me about launching CPC. We have the privilege of investing alongside some incredible entrepreneurs, working with them as they bring their vision to fruition and building wonderful relationships in the process.
